In Massachusetts, in yesterday’s Senate race, Oakley received 835,000 less votes then Obama did in 2008. While the winner Brown received 57,000 more voted than McCain did in 2008.
Every pundit has a complex answer about this victory . My answer is that at least 850,000 Massachutseans did not heed President Obama’s plea for support.
Even with 60 votes in the Senate , the Obama administration has not been able to have its programs passed. So the problems was not the Republicans., but rather with Obama’s fellow Democrats. Even the great elbow bender, LBJ, today would have difficulty getting all the Democrats to agree on anything.
Before one of the recent Senate hearings for a Bush judicial appointment, some Senate Democrats had said they would filibuster this appointment to death. Karl Rove pointed out that the Senate filibuster was based on a Senate rule that required only a simple majority to change- eliminating filibusters. Nobody argued with this. A compromise was reached. The majority Republicans agreed not to repeal the filibuster rule, the minority Democrats agreed not to filibuster judicial appointments.
This was a limited repeal of filibuster. Now for a complete repeal of the filibuster. Only. if the majority Democrats repeal this fillibuster rule, will the Obama programs have any chance of being enacted this year.
If you think that the filibuster rule that gives any Senator veto power over the acts of the remaining 59%, is unfair and undemocratic – Tell your U.S, Senators today that your Senators must vote for the repeal of the Senate filibuster rule ASAP.
Otherwise, instead of helping the economy, the Congress will be completely hamstrung- while the economy drops again.
To the honorable Senator Vonavich,
Please you must vote for the repeal of the Senate filibuster rule ASAP. This is a strategy based on holding up any progress on anything! Please help our country move toward solutions and not partisan politicking! Thank you for your life of dedicated service.
Sincerely,
Tracy Tishman Brown
