The San Francisco Giants won the World Series. The Giants were underdogs in each series. Starting with the playoffs with the Atlanta Braves- all the experts picked the Braves. The Giants won easily. Then against the Phillies for the National League championship, the experts said the Phillies had better pitching and hitting then the San Francisco Giants. In spite of this, the Giants easily won the National League Championship. For the World Series the Texans were the overwhelming favorites to be victorious. Again, the San Francisco Giants easily won the World Series in five games.
Many of the Giant players are over thirty. These players were released from other teams and picked up by the Giants. Except that the starting pitchers and catcher were products of the Giants farm system.
Giant Manager Bruce Boichy juggled their starting lineup each day. Each day a new hitting hero came forth.
The constant was the inability of the opposing teams to hit Giant pitching.
What does all these mean? The experts could not understand the Giants will to win and the basic truth that pitching was the most important factor in determining the outcome of a baseball game.
In these difficult times, the Giants should inspire all who are being counted out. They can win- if they keep trying like the San Francisco Giants did so successfully!
